David Pearsall wins F-Open at NSWRA 2020 Covid Recovery Queens
After a delay of nearly 6 months, the NSWRA 144th Annual Open Championship (Queens) was finally held over three days in late January, 2021. Against a very strong field, Dave Pearsall, club member and past Captain of North Sydney Rifle Club, emerged victorious in the F Open category with a score of 537.45 out of a possible total score of 540.90 . The event was shot under very warm skies and this year the wind prevailed from the ocean side of the Malabar range. Subtle wind direction changes and speed flicks caught many a shooter out however Dave was able to detect those and take them in his stride. Such was the level of competition that Dave did not emerge as the winner until the very last stage at 800M by a single point!
Dave is a member of the Australian F Open squad planning to compete in the delayed World Championships in South Africa. His win in this Queens will help him keep his skills tuned up in these COVID times and he looks forward to competing in the 2021 NSWRA Queens in September this year.
North Sydney Rifle Club congratulates Dave on his hard fought and well-deserved victory! Other NSRC members competing were Stuart Nimmo in F-Standard, with John Alp and Andrew Beavis in F-Open.

NSDRA Champion of Champions 2020
This event is usually held in June each year but this year it was delayed until 22 August due to uncertainties and restrictions associated with COVID-19. The event brings together NSDRA Club Champions in each discipline with the winners being awarded the status of Champion of Champions. Strong winds made shooting very difficult. Winds up to 56kph from the North West, were recorded at Observatory Hill. This year NSRC was represented by our F-Standard and F-Open champions; Terry Howell and Dave Pearsall. Dave won a closely fought battle for F-Open. He top scored the 300 meters and 800 meters ranges, was only a couple of super centers away at 500 meters and was two points behind at 700 meters. His score of 230.12 made him the winner by one point. Terry, who has had a very good shooting year, was third in F-Standard. Full results are here.

New Range Program
The new program to December 2020 has been created to facilitate social distancing requirements of the NSW Government. Shooting is to be conducted in the morning and in the afternoon so that clubs will have at least one target lane unused between each club on the range. It shows which club is to be shooting in the morning or afternoon and which club has range duty for full, set-up or pack-up duties for the morning and afternoon sessions. See the notes at the bottom of each page of the program for a full explanation of duties.

Recommencement of Shooting
Limited shooting is now permitted on Hornsby Rifle Range subject to compliance with rules set by the NSW Government and guidance provided by Sport NSW, the NRAA and the AIS. The NSWRA has issued a document that provides information on the situation as of 20 May 2020. Additionally, procedures on he mound have been altered to comply with NSW Government advice on restricting the spread of COVID-19. Because of the restrictions on the numbers of shooters on the range; club members who want to shoot are to contact the NSRC Secretary so that they may be allocated a time and target.

F-Open Perfect Score 60.10
A second perfect score (25Jan20) within the space of a month. Club Secretary John Leask shot a perfect score of 60 with 10 super centres. John has only recently changed to F-Open 😼 from F-Standard and is now shooting a 280HI with much success. This is John's first 60.10 and the first at Hornsby since mid 2017; so it is an uncommon occurance. Other F-Open 60.10 shoots on Hornsby Rifle Range over the past 10 years were: Matt Paroz 4 times including once with 4 "pins", Paul Brown, Phil De La Rue and Dave Dobson 1 time each. My research shows that only North Sydney members have achieved that on the Hornsby Rifle Range in that time. John's target can be seen here
F-Standard Perfect Score 60.10
On Saturday 28th December 2019 club member Terry Howell shot a perfect score of 60 with 10 super centres at 300 meters. Terry has previously scored 60.9 on five other occasions but this time he cracked the big one. A search of the Hexta database shows that over the past 10 years, only one other shooter at Hornsby Range has scored 60.10 in F-Standard and that was another NSRC member Matt Paroz. Terry's target can be seen here
